Bilingual in Human and Machine

This is the first generation that will speak fluently to both people and models. What that fluency actually is — and what it must never replace.

July 24, 2026 · about 8 min · written to be read aloud

Somewhere in your house there may be a kid who speaks one language to their friends, another to their grandmother, and a third — you've heard it, that oddly formal, oddly patient voice — to a machine. Nobody taught them the third one. They picked it up the way kids pick up any language: by living somewhere it's spoken.

They are the first generation in history growing up bilingual in human and machine. And like every bilingual generation before them, they're going to end up translating for the rest of us.
